THE UNDERGRADUATE AWARD

The undergraduate award is intended for low income students and is intended to alleviate the financial burden of funding undergraduate education in Texas, whether at a 4 year or a 2 year public college.

Texas students currently at college or high school seniors may apply. Scholarships may be used for tuition and college-related expenses payable to the college. Funding will be sent directly to the college.

Scholarships are awarded for the Fall semester.  

Purpose Of The Award

Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a resident of Texas;

  • Be aged between 17 and 25 years old at the time of application;

  • Be enrolled in full time education within the Texas education system;

  • Major in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or Business-related subjects (including Management, HR, Marketing, Finance, Accounting etc);

  • Be accepted to attend a 2 year or 4 year public college in Texas;

  • Come from a low income household;

  • Maintain a GPA of 3 or above (current college students) or 3.5 (current high school students applying for Freshman year funding);

  • Be able to attend an Awards Dinner to receive the award in Houston on April 30th 2026.

how to apply

All applicants need to complete an application form (click on the link below) and upload the following to it:

  • IRS Form 1099 - ensure that Social Security numbers are not visible

  • School transcript - official or unofficial;

  • FAFSA report (or TAFSA report for non US citizens);

Applicants who have not already been awarded a BAFTX scholarship will also need to submit:

  • An essay of between 400 and 450 words responding to the following prompt: "Excluding financial need, what are the most significant challenges you expect to face while in college and how will you overcome these challenges?"

  • A letter of recommendation from a teacher or a counselor. This will not be uploaded to the application form but must be emailed from a teacher or counselor’s school address to arrive by 12 midday on March 31st. Guidelines for teachers to write your recommendation letter are available here;

DEADLINE

The deadline for applications is 12 midday on March 31st and we cannot accept incomplete or late forms.

Applications for 2025 are now closed - we will inform successful candidates before the end of APRIL 2025.
